Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting With Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first World Series after 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the final game seven of the ALCS.

Trailing by two runs, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming championship.

"I'm just so happy for this squad, our city, the nation," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an incredible feeling."

Springer has now hit 23 post-season home runs, placing him third all-time after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).

"There's probably not anyone else on planet Earth that I want up in that spot other than Springer with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it hurts" in the wake of his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but praised their performance throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we ended up on the wrong side of this one," he continued.

Toronto won the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
