Fast bowler Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Worries.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

The English seamer increased the injury concerns plaguing England when he left the ground on the second morning in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his left leg post-delivery of the fourth over on Saturday.

Team management reported Atkinson felt some "soreness" and required time on the sidelines for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the tour beginning on 4 January starts on Sunday, 4 January.

England have already lost key quicks one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was omitted of the third Test, before being recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs with the bat as one of just three teammates to reach double figures.

After bowling one over at the end of day one, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, on the final ball of his spell, he delivered a slower ball to Travis Head and promptly felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission of the third.
